TQF Mid Year Update

Now half way through the year we thought we’d share what we’ve been up to lately…

Water tanks and pipes

If you have travelled to Asia over the summer months, you’ll know that temperatures can soar as high as 45 degrees in the shade. The land is dry and dusty and water becomes a serious problem – and this summer was certainly no exception! When we arrived in Thailand we discovered just how much the wells your generosity helped us build last year helped the kids and the town. This year was the driest summer on record – and without the wells they would not have had the water they needed.

If that wasn’t enough, we have also discovered that as a result of our wells the local government has now put in a water pipe to the village which was a HUGE achievement. These are the kind of ripples you are helping us create throughout the village.

Period pad voucher system

While in Thailand it came to our attention that a lot of the girls don’t have access to period pads. Now you can imagine what a sensitive issue this is for a girl to begin with but without the proper hygiene products? We just couldn’t have that!

We are so pleased to announce that we have set up a voucher system for our girls that upon turning 14 (or whenever needed) they can, once a month, collect what they need and not have to worry.

Paying it forward

Giving back is such an important part of our culture here at The Q Foundation and it is a concept we want to pass onto the kids involved. While we were over in Kaper we wanted to teach the kids about giving back and looking after the environment.

There is a huge litter problem in Thailand so we took the kids down to ‘Emubob’ (the hospital grounds) to pick up rubbish. While we were there we caught the attention of the head Doctor Kunlasup and Director of Amenities, Ladda who were overflowing with thanks. Now everywhere the kids go together they take a bag to clean up.

Dental care products for all kids

Dental hygiene is a real issue with the kids, so when we had them all together for the bike safety course we couldn’t miss the opportunity to give them all toothbrushes and toothpaste, and chat about the importance of taking care of their teeth.

These small differences are making a massive difference in the lives of The Q Foundation kids. Thank you for all of your help!
