It’s no secret that this time of year can be difficult for many. Over the last couple of weeks we have been busy preparing and delivering a food drop to each family in The Q Foundation.
Each pack included something to nourish their bodies and something to make them smile:
• Fresh Chicken (quite a treat, families can rarely afford a whole fresh chicken)
• 30 Fresh Eggs (also something they can rarely afford)
• 10 tins of canned fish
• 10kg bag of rice
• Cooking oil, soy sauce and all the basics for cooking
• 20 meals of noodles
• Toothpaste
• Toothbrushes
• Talc
• Cookies (which they had never heard about! We had to explain what they were)
• Chocolate
• Other treats for the kids
The list would be shrug worthy to many of us – we buy many of these items in our standard weekly shop without giving it a second thought. But you should have seen their faces.
Seeing a child beaming with gratitude over a bag of rice made me want to cry and smile at the same time.
While many children in the Western world will be wishing for the latest expensive gadgets, children in other parts of the world would be just as grateful – if not more for eggs, rice or chicken.
It puts life in perspective doesn’t it? There are some things in life that you cannot un-see, it changes your life forever – this for me is one of them.
I have so much gratitude for the generous souls that sponsor our kids and donate to The Q Foundation. Also, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Khwan Kj Koyphol and our tiny team on the ground that are doing so much to help these kids!
