Basic Needs

Servicing the basic needs every child should have met.

Poverty is not just a lack of money; it is not having the capability to realise one’s full potential as a human being.
– Amartya Sen

In our eyes, there is no greater injustice in this world than poverty. Many of the children that come to us through The Q Foundation are malnourished and stunted in their growth. The basic needs that every human being should have access to – regular healthy meals, basic hygiene and adequate shelter – are not met.

But we’re changing this. Below you will find out more about the services we provide The Q Foundation kids to meet their basic needs and make their lives healthier, safer and more comfortable.

Clean Water

If you have travelled to Asia over the summer months, you’ll know that temperatures can soar as high as 45 degrees in the shade. The land is dry and dusty, and water becomes a serious problem.

That is why one of the first projects was to build two wells for the village to ensure they had access to clean water all year round. As a direct result of these wells, the local government has now put in a water pipe to the village as well!

Nourishing Food

Knowing that good food is essential for growth and development, each month The Q Foundation kids receive vouchers that entitle them to water and two meals each day. Each voucher is exchanged for fresh food (not sweets or other items) like chicken sticky rice, hot curries and rice, or other traditional meals at a named shop in their area on the date listed. Sensitive to the needs of children within The Q Foundation, we have also organised meal options that accommodate their religious beliefs.

In addition to our food voucher process, we also organise regular food packs for the families of The Q Foundation kids. These include cooking supplies, staples and fresh food to nourish their bodies and some goodies to make them smile.

Adequate Shelter

Shelter is one of our most basic needs, but for many of The Q Foundation kids, it is not one that is met adequately. Many of the kids live in tiny homes that are falling apart, leaking or worse, flooding in the wet season – a serious threat to their health and safety.

To make sure The Q Foundation kids have adequate shelter, we have organised home extensions, made repairs and installed proper roofs to protect them from the elements. Any further maintenance issues or repairs required are flagged during our monthly welfare checks, and photos of homes are also taken.

Dental care

Dental hygiene is a real issue with the kids; this is why we regularly supply them with toothbrushes and toothpaste and talk to them about the importance of taking care of their teeth. While it seems so simple, this can make a significant impact on the health of The Q Foundation kids.

Sanitary products

Sadly, many of the girls in Thailand don’t have access to the sanitary products they need every month. Knowing this can be a sensitive issue for a young girl at the best of times, we couldn’t have them going without the proper hygiene products they need.

To help, we have created a voucher system that girls get access to upon turning 14 (or sooner if needed) that gives them the ability to collect the products they need each month.

Help us break the cycle of poverty by joining our giving community

Making a difference in the world can often seem overwhelming, impossible even. But the truth is you can make a world of difference to one child, one village at a time. For as little as $1 per day we can get a child into our program and meet their basic needs.

With 100% of your money bringing hope to children in need, you have the added peace of mind knowing that all funds go exactly where they are needed.
